Introduction

Hello fellow binders,
I am a retired engineer who has taken to bookbinding and repair in later life. I have been learning bookbinding for the past 12 years, by practice and by attending short courses with the Victorian Bookbinders Guild.
I started book repair when books that came into our secondhand bookshop needed attention. I realised that there was a correct way to do the job. Arthur Johnson's Bookbinding Manual was my guide and then I had to find a supplier of materials, and that is when I joined the Vic. Bookbinders Guild. Customers in the shop saw what I was doing and asked me to repair their books. This has grown and the bookselling side of the business is being run down while the bookbinding activity continues to grow, or at least remain as a steady flow.
I hope this website-forum becomes a good source of contacts to whom I can refer customers. I recently did a job for someone in Sydney mainly because I was the only one he could get a response from.

Bye for now

Just thought I should update readers about Mr. Suddaby's Bookshop. It has now closed! I am working through the maze of websites to try and remove references. My website at www.booklovers.com.au will continue for a few more months.

Hello again,
I have closed my website and have sold almost all the books I am willing to part with. I have sold some of the larger items of bookbinders equipment to a fellow bookbinder who works from home in Frankston. I will be relocating to Tasmania on 20th April and, after finding a permanent place to live within the next 6 months I may start bookbinding again but only for myself. I know of 2 commercial bookbinders in Tasmania, and would be pleased to hear from any other bookbinders who live in Tasmania.
My final bookbinding activity before moving will be an illustrated talk about the repairs I recently did to a 1611/13 edition of the King James Bible. This will be at the Victorian Bookbinders Guild meeting on the 15th April.
